Aksiliklere rağmen o hiçbir zaman vazgeçmedi ve 2009 yılında Mnet’in yetenek yarışması olan ‘Superstar K’ye katıldı. Müzik programının sonunda 1. ilan edildi.
İlk baş rolünü TVN’in 90’ların nostaljik hit draması ‘Reply 1997’ ile kaptı.eo canlandırdığı rol ile hem izleyicilerden hem de eleştirmenlerde övgü kazandı. Dizide en iyi çocukluk arkadaşına karşılıksız aşk besleyen bir çocuğu canlandırdı. Ayrıca rol arkadaşı Jung Eun-ji ile söylediği ost’ler liste başı oldu
